    There was a significant turnover in players over the summer as many of the players signed under Alan Miller moved on. Over the course of the season there would be more players come and go with manager Stevie McLeish using 34 different players.

    The season started well with a 4-2 win over Carnoustie Panmure, but soon the season turned sour as Star spent most of the season near or at the bottom of the league. There was also an early exit from the Scottish Junior Cup, going down 2-1 to Irvine Victoria.

    Star's next league victory would not come until near Christmas (2-0 over Camelon Juniors) and a third win over Fauldhouse followed in the New Year. Nonetheless, by the time Star reached April there were only those 3 wins on the board. Relegation looked inevitable. However, there were some signs of promise with 8 league matches remaining, Star had a run of four draws, some of which really should have been wins. Star then finished the season with a remarkable run of 4 straight wins over Carnoustie Panmure, Musselburgh Athletic, Lochee United and Linlithgow Rose. Star just had to wait. There were three teams who could catch up though. Firstly, Camelon Juniors went above Star. Then Linlithgow Rose. Only Musselburgh Athletic were between Star and relegation. However, Burgh had four games left and needed just 4 points. They won their first match away to Bonnyrigg Rose meaning they only needed 1 point from the remaining three. But they lost them all and were relegated.

    Star then faced a relegation playoff with Forfar West End to retain a place in the Superleague. Star took the lead in the first leg in Forfar, but the hosts scored 3 times to take an advantage into the second leg. Despite missing numerous players, Star won the second leg 1-0, but it wasn't enough and the team suffered relegation.

    There was a reprieve though, as league champions Kelty Hearts resigned from the league to join the East of Scotland League and Star's relegation was overturned and the team would somehow spend another year in the East Superleague.
